Millennium Development Goals (MDG)

Meeting Millennium Development Goals

The eight MDGs are:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality & empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  8. Develop a global partnership for development.

SSB addresses them all to some degree:

  • A stable home with healthy people supports horticulture, agriculture and stable jobs.
  • Healthy comfortable workplaces support a stable community.
  • Light enables children to study in the hours of darkness.
  • Clean cooking facilities substantially mitigates home pollution.
  • Water purification reduces disease.
  • Water recycling reduces the frequency of water collection.
  • Fridges reduce food and medicine waste.
  • Power for communications and laptops aid learning and, with Internet links, transform communication.
  • Using SSB practices ensures environmental sustainability.
  • The SSB Challenge will create a global network.
