Meeting Millennium Development Goals
The eight MDGs are:
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
- Achieve universal primary education
- Promote gender equality & empower women
- Reduce child mortality
- Improve maternal health
- Combat HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Develop a global partnership for development.
SSB addresses them all to some degree:
- A stable home with healthy people supports horticulture, agriculture and stable jobs.
- Healthy comfortable workplaces support a stable community.
- Light enables children to study in the hours of darkness.
- Clean cooking facilities substantially mitigates home pollution.
- Water purification reduces disease.
- Water recycling reduces the frequency of water collection.
- Fridges reduce food and medicine waste.
- Power for communications and laptops aid learning and, with Internet links, transform communication.
- Using SSB practices ensures environmental sustainability.
- The SSB Challenge will create a global network.
